ATLANTA – State Representative Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta) and State Senator Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) will hold a press conference TOMORROW, Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 2 p.m. in room 203 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building in Atlanta.
Rep. Schofield and Sen. Orrock will be joined by Atlanta City Councilmember Antonio Lewis. Together, they will discuss potential recurring environmental issues related to TAV Holdings, Inc., which is located at 3311 Empire Boulevard in Atlanta.
The Georgia Environmental Protection Agency recently issued an Emergency Unilateral Administrative Order for this facility to cease activities that may result in releasing hazardous and solid waste in the environment and to take actions that ensure the facility is operating in compliance with regulations.
“While there has been cooperation from both parties, the recurrence of a potential environmental disaster must not be ignored,” said Rep. Schofield. “Black families, children and seniors deserve a healthy nontoxic environment. Environmental racism flourishes when companies are not held accountable. This will not happen here.”
“It is simply unacceptable for any industry to threaten the health and safety of our families and communities with toxic pollution,” said Sen. Orrock. “The levels of lead in nearby stream water sounded the alarm. We need immediate action to stop these irresponsible and illegal practices by TAV.”
