Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Announces Black College Tour

ATLANTA – The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC), chaired by State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Savannah), today announced its upcoming Black College Tour, which will take place from September 25 – October 6. The Black College Tour will provide GLBC members with the opportunity to explore historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in Georgia, dive into cultural experiences and gain insight into the needs of HBCU students across the state.

“As legislators, we are looking forward to joining young leaders across the state of Georgia,” said Rep. Gilliard. “Hearing from these students and listening to their concerns about the issues they are facing will allow us to formulate new relationships that will help us move Georgia forward.”

The GLBC Black College Tour seeks to engage and build relationships with HBCU students throughout the state. During the Black College Tour, GLBC members will have the chance to visit Georgia’s HBCUs and explore the campuses, facilities and academic programs to help GLBC members better understand the current state of HBCU campuses. GLBC members will work with leadership at each HBCU campus to hold press conferences to highlight success stories and discuss funding for Georgia’s HBCUs to ensure the success of future Black leaders. Further, GLBC members will participate in student-led town hall meetings to hear directly from students and understand their current needs and hopes for the future of their campuses. These campuses include Albany State University, Fort Valley State University, Savannah State University, Spelman College, Morehouse College, Paine College, Morris Brown College and more.

The GLBC Black College Tour is a private event for GLBC members, representatives of each Georgia HBCU and their students.

Recognized as one of the largest Black caucuses in the nation, the GLBC is a group of elected officials dedicated to advocating for the needs and concerns of Black Georgians. The caucus includes 74 members who represent more than three million residents.
