ATLANTA – The House Study Committee on Fishing Access to Freshwater Resources, chaired by House Majority Caucus Whip James Burchett (R-Waycross), will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Towerhouse Farm Brewery in Gay, Georgia.
“I thank Representative Jenkins for his efforts to encourage a conversation about this important issue in his district,” said Whip Burchett. “I look forward to hearing from his constituents as well as state and local leaders about the importance of preserving access to Georgia’s fishing resources while ensuring we continue to protect property rights.”
“Mayor Nash and I look forward to the opportunity to host this discussion focused on the Flint River in our community,” said State Representative David Jenkins (R-Grantville). “As one with a passion for paddling and fishing on Georgia rivers, I fully understand how important the work of this committee is to the citizens of Georgia.”
Created by House Resolution 519, this study committee will examine the public’s right to fish in Georgia’s freshwater resources and examine any inconsistencies or conflicts in the law between the public’s right to fish and private property rights.
