Rep. Marcus Wiedower Appointed to Joint-Blue Ribbon Committee on Licensing Issues

ATLANTA – State Representative Marcus Wiedower (R-Watkinsville), chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government, has been appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on a joint Blue-Ribbon Committee tasked with investigating licensing issues within the Georgia Secretary of State’s Professional Licensing Boards Division (the Division).

“It is imperative that we put a stop to the countless hurdles our constituents are facing with the Professional Licensing Boards Division,” said chairman Wiedower. “Georgia’s small businesses and those they employ are the backbone of our state’s economy. Therefore, we must address these inefficiencies and find solutions to support Georgia’s invaluable and thriving workforce. I want to thank Speaker Burns for placing his trust in me to serve as a member of this necessary committee. I look forward to collaborating with my House and Senate colleagues to uncover much-needed solutions for Georgia’s workforce.”

The committee’s focus will be on improving the processes for obtaining and renewing licenses, certifications and other services mandated and regulated by the Division. Issues such as website functionality, timely responses to inquiries and overall accountability of the Division will be examined. As part of their mandate, the committee will engage with stakeholders, gather input from affected businesses and hold discussions with the Secretary of State and Division staff to identify root causes and propose actionable recommendations. The goal is to streamline processes, enhance accountability and remove barriers that impede business growth and operations.
