Speaker Jon Burns Appoints Chairman Bill Yearta to Serve on House Study Committee on Safety & Consumer Protection in the Tree Care Industry

ATLANTA – State Representative Bill Yearta (R-Sylvester), Chairman of the House Committee on Code Revision, was recently chosen by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the House Study Committee on Safety and Consumer Protection in the Tree Care Industry.

“Our goal is to create a framework that not only protects the lives of those in the tree care industry but also supports the continued thriving of Georgia’s environment,” said Chairman Yearta. “Proper tree care is vital to maintaining our natural resources, and by addressing these regulatory gaps, we can ensure both our workers and our environment are safeguarded for future generations. I am deeply grateful to Speaker Burns for selecting me to serve on this distinguished committee. I look forward to working alongside my legislative colleagues to propose and develop meaningful legislation that will positively impact Georgia’s tree trimmers, ensuring their safety and well-being.”

The House Study Committee on Safety and Consumer Protection in the Tree Care Industry was established after House Resolution 473 was adopted by unanimous vote during the 2024 legislative session. The study committee will be responsible for conducting a deep dive into Georgia’s tree care industry, specifically rules and regulations for Georgia’s tree trimmers, and will have the opportunity to draft and file proposed legislation based on their findings during the upcoming legislative session in January.

Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representatives Victor Anderson (R-Cornelia), Marvin Lim (D-Norcross), David Huddleston (R-Roopville) and Jordan Ridley (R-Woodstock).

Representative Bill Yearta represents the citizens of District 152, which includes Lee and Worth counties and portions of Dougherty County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2019 and currently serves as Chairman of the Code Revision Committee and Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government.
