Rep. John Corbett Appointed to House Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters

ATLANTA – State Representative John Corbett (R-Lake Park), chairman of the House Committee on Motor Vehicles, was recently named by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as a member of the House Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters.

“I am honored to have been appointed to help investigate the complexities of access and use of navigable streams for both private property owners and the public,” said Rep. Corbett. “Our goal will be to research the current policies regarding navigable streams and make recommendations to ensure that our laws are fair to both property owners and those who wish to explore these precious natural resources. I am eager to hear from constituents and professionals alike in determining solutions to identifying navigable streams and their usage.”

The House Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters was established following the adoption of House Resolution 1554 during the 2024 legislative session. This study committee will examine aspects of navigable streams in this state and the issues surrounding their ownership, private and public rights of use and other related matters and may make recommendations for proposed legislation ahead of the 2025 legislative session.

Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representatives Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), Stan Gunter (R-Blairsville), Al Williams (D-Midway), Johnny Chastain (R-Blue Ridge) and James Burchett (R-Waycross); Mr. Jud Turner will serve as the non-legislative member.

Representative John Corbett represents the citizens of District 174, which includes Brantley, Charlton, Clinch and Echols counties, as well as portions of Lowndes and Ware counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2014 and currently serves as Chairman of the Motor Vehicles Committee. He also serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Game, Fish & Parks, Health, Natural Resources & Environment, Small Business Development and Transportation committees.
