House Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications Ad Hoc Committee on Community Solar to Hold Next Meeting at State Capitol

ATLANTA – The House Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications Ad Hoc Committee on Community Solar, chaired by State Representative Beth Camp (R-Concord), will hold its second meeting on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in room 403 of the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta.

“Thank you to the experts and industry leaders who gave comments during the first hearing,” said Chair Camp. “My goal for this committee is to do a deep dive on the benefits of community solar and examine some of the challenges. I appreciate the time and efforts of all the committee members and staff who are working outside of legislative session on this important topic. I believe this is a very worthwhile discussion on how we can generate savings for ratepayers.”

“The community solar industry is extremely grateful for the opportunity to inform and assist lawmakers in understanding how diversifying the grid with the cheapest form of energy can benefit all Georgians,” said Georgia Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) President Pete Corbett. “The input of committee members during the first hearing was extremely insightful. Georgia SEIA members are willing to invest millions in infrastructure in a short period of time, if afforded the opportunity. No matter what time of day solar is added to the grid, it brings down the cost of all other forms of energy given the current markets. Coupled with the added benefit of private investment by solar developers, this is a win-win for Georgia.”

The Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications Ad Hoc Committee on Community Solar was created following Chair Camp’s introduction of House Bill 1152, or the Georgia Homegrown Solar Act of 2024, during the 2024 legislative session.
