Rep. Matt Barton Appointed Secretary of the Appropriations Committee, Added to Health Committee and Named Ex-Officio Member of the Ways and Means Committee

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments recently appointed State Representative Matt Barton (R-Calhoun) as Secretary of the House Appropriations Committee. He has also been appointed to the Health Committee and appointed Ex-Officio to the Ways and Means Committee.

“I am deeply grateful to Speaker Burns and the Committee on Assignments for entrusting me with these important roles,” said Rep. Barton. “Serving as Secretary of the Appropriations Committee and being a part of other key committees gives me the opportunity to continue working for the benefit of all Georgians. I am particularly excited to contribute to our state’s health and economic initiatives in these capacities.”

In addition to these new roles, Rep. Barton continues to serve as Vice Chair of the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications and Motor Vehicles committees, where he works alongside fellow lawmakers to oversee legislation impacting Georgia’s energy and telecommunications industries, as well as motor vehicle regulations.

The Health Committee plays a pivotal role in addressing policies and legislation that impact the health and well-being of Georgians.

The Appropriations Committee is responsible for allocating state funding to various programs and services, while the Industry and Labor Committee focuses on workforce and labor-related issues.

Additionally, as an Ex-Officio member of the Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Barton will have input on matters concerning taxation and state revenue.

Rep. Barton has served House District 5, which includes portions of Floyd and Gordon counties since 2019. In addition to his legislative roles, his goal as a state representative is to address the needs of his constituents and enhance the quality of life across the state.

Representative Matt Barton represents the citizens of District 5, which includes portions of Floyd and Gordon counties. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2019 and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications and Motor Vehicles committees, as well as the Secretary of the Appropriations and Industry and Labor committees.
