ATLANTA – State Representative Jordan Ridley (R-Woodstock) recently introduced House Bill 186, which would eliminate the title ad valorem tax fee requirement for certain inherited motor vehicles.
“HB 186 is a common-sense tax relief measure that would lessen the potential financial burden of inheriting a vehicle after losing a relative,” said Rep. Ridley. “It’s only fair that an automobile inherited from a late relative is exempt from fees. I’m grateful to my fellow House members for cosponsoring this proposed legislation, with over 30 representatives supporting it.”
HB 186 would update the law so that upon the death of an owner of a motor vehicle, an immediate family member who receives the vehicle would not be subject to a state title ad valorem tax fee.

Representative Jordan Ridley represents the citizens of District 22, which includes portions of Cherokee and Cobb counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Code Revision Committee and Secretary of the Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications Committee. He also serves on the Game, Fish and Parks and Public Safety and Homeland Security committees.
