House Majority Leader Chuck Efstration and Sen. Sam Watson Applaud Signing of Legislation Supporting Georgia Farmers

ATLANTA – House Majority Leader Chuck Efstration (R-Mulberry) and State Senator Sam Watson (R-Moultrie) applaud Governor Kemp for signing House Bill 90 into law to support Georgia farmers and agribusiness. The bill will increase the maximum acreage to qualify as a bona fide conservation use property.

“Preserving family farms in rural Georgia is vital to preserving our state’s $84 billion agribusiness industry,” said Leader Efstration. “I was proud to sponsor this legislation to protect our rural communities and look forward to voting in favor of the accompanying constitutional amendment in November of 2026 to support the one in seven Georgians who work in agriculture or forestry related fields.”

“As a farmer, I’ve seen firsthand the importance of Georgia’s CUVA program to small agricultural operations,” said Sen. Watson. “HB 90 is an important step to ensure CUVA remains a key tool for the producers and growers who fuel our state’s number one industry of agribusiness.”

House Bill 90 will increase the maximum acreage to qualify as a bona fide conservation use property from 2,000 acres to 4,000 acres. These changes are effective on January 1, 2027, only if the related constitutional amendment, House Resolution 32, is ratified by voters in the statewide election held in November 2026.
