Rep. Chuck Martin Named Chairman of House Study Committee on Funding for Next Generation 9-1-1

ATLANTA – State Representative Chuck Martin (R-Alpharetta), chairman of the House Higher Education Committee, was recently named by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as the chairman of the House Study Committee on Funding for Next Generation 9-1-1.

“I am honored to be named as chairman of this important and timely study committee,” said Chairman Martin. “Our 9-1-1 system is a critical lifeline for Georgians, yet portions of our infrastructure remain outdated and underfunded. This study committee is crucial in reviewing the state’s current 9-1-1 funding and providing recommendations for transitioning our centers to modern Next Generation 9-1-1 centers. We will work to ensure that our emergency response system is modernized, reliable and equipped to save lives, while keeping up with technological advancements and our state’s crisis needs.”

Established by House Resolution 429, this study committee will conduct a comprehensive review of the state’s current 9-1-1 funding provisions. The committee will also study and identify any reforms necessary to provide adequate funding to support the transition from legacy 9-1-1 centers to modern Next Generation 9-1-1 centers in a manner that will ensure that their current and future operations can be fully realized in Georgia.

Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representatives Beth Camp (R-Concord), Lauren McDonald III (R-Cumming), Clint Crowe (R-Jackson) and Bruce Williamson (R-Monroe).

Representative Chuck Martin represents the citizens of District 49, which includes a portion of Fulton County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and currently serves as Chairman of the Higher Education Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education, Creative Arts & Entertainment, Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Regulated Industries, Retirement, Rules and Ways & Means committees.
