Rep. John Corbett Appointed Chairman of the House Study Committee on the State Board of Registration of Used Motor Vehicle Dealers & Used Motor Vehicle Parts Dealers

ATLANTA – State Representative John Corbett (R-Lake Park), chairman of the House Committee on Motor Vehicles, was recently named by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as chairman of the House Study Committee on the State Board of Registration of Used Motor Vehicle Dealers & Used Motor Vehicle Parts Dealers.

“I’m honored to be appointed by Speaker Burns to chair the House Study Committee on the State Board of Registration of Used Motor Vehicle Dealers and Used Motor Vehicle Parts Dealers,” said Chairman Corbett. “As chairman of the House Motor Vehicles Committee, I’m deeply committed to strengthening Georgia’s motor vehicle policies and ensuring they serve the best interests of both businesses and the public. This study committee presents an important opportunity to evaluate whether consolidating regulatory responsibilities – particularly those tied to vehicle licensing – can lead to more streamlined, effective oversight. I look forward to working with my colleagues to explore solutions that support a strong, fair and efficient used motor vehicle industry in our state.”

House Study Committee on the State Board of Registration of Used Motor Vehicle Dealers & Used Motor Vehicle Parts Dealers was established following the adoption of House Resolution 558 during the 2025 legislative session. This study committee will study whether regulation of the used motor vehicle industry would be best suited within the same agency that is responsible for issuing license plates that are essential for the operation of such business.

Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representative Alan Powell (R-Hartwell), State Representative Jason Ridley (R-Chatsworth) and State Representative Danny Mathis (R-Cochran). Ms. Maggie Haisty, Deputy Chief of Staff, Georgia Secretary of State, Mr. Derrick Corbett and the Department of Revenue Commissioner or a designee will serve as non-legislative members.

Representative John Corbett represents the citizens of District 174, which includes Brantley, Charlton, Clinch, Echols counties, as well as portions of Lowndes and Ware counties. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2014 and currently serves as Chairman of the Motor Vehicles Committee. He also serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Game, Fish & Parks, Natural Resources & Environment, Rural Development, Transportation and Ways & Means committees.
