Speaker Jon Burns Appoints Floor Leader Soo Hong to the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates

ATLANTA – State Representative Soo Hong (R-Lawrenceville), who serves as a Governor’s Floor Leader, was recently appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates.

“Georgians across the state are feeling the financial pressure from rising insurance premiums, and this committee is a critical step toward finding real, lasting solutions,” said Floor Leader Hong. “I’m grateful to Speaker Burns for appointing me to serve on this study committee, and I’m committed to ensuring that our insurance market operates fairly, transparently and in the best interest of Georgia families and businesses.”

The Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates will conduct a thorough examination of the insurance industry’s rate-setting practices, profit margins, claims processing and regulatory compliance to ensure that Georgia’s businesses, citizens and consumers are not being subjected to unjustified rate hikes. The committee will compile a report of specific findings related to our state’s insurance premiums or legislative recommendations that protect consumers from predatory pricing to ensure that Georgia’s insurance market operates fairly and transparently.

Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representatives Matt Reeves (R-Duluth), Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee), Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire), Majority Whip James Burchett (R-Waycross), Noel Williams, Jr. (R-Cordele), Todd Jones (R-South Forsyth), Emory Dunahoo (R-Gillsville), Michelle Au (D-Johns Creek), Bruce Williamson (R-Monroe), Trey Kelley (R-Cedartown), Minority Leader Carolyn Hugley (D-Columbus), Al Williams (D-Midway), Jaclyn Ford (R-Tifton), Karen Mathiak (R-Griffin), Majority Leader Chuck Efstration (R-Mulberry) and Joseph Gullett (R-Dallas).

Representative Soo Hong represents the citizens of District 103, which includes portions of Gwinnett and Hall counties. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves as one of the Governor’s Floor Leaders and Vice Chair of the Reapportionment & Redistricting Committee, as well as Secretary of the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee. She also serves on the Judiciary and Ways & Means committees.
