Rep. Derrick Jackson Hosts 30 Mandela Washington Fellowship Students at State Capitol

ATLANTA – State Representative Derrick Jackson (D-Tyrone) today hosted 30 Mandela Washington Fellows from various African countries at the Georgia State Capitol. The fellows will also be visiting Georgia State University this summer for the Public Management and Leadership Institute.

“This is my fourth time hosting these fellows at the State Capitol, and I am thankful to show these distinguished young leaders how our state government operates and the history within our Gold Dome,” said Rep. Jackson. “This program is an incredible opportunity for innovators from African countries to visit the U.S. and expand their leadership skills to take back to their own communities. Throughout their time in the U.S., they will also spend five weeks at Georgia State where they will be immersed in rigorous academic and leadership training. I am excited for the 2025 cohort and wish them a fulfilling and comprehensive learning experience in Atlanta and beyond.”

The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders is the flagship program of the U.S. Government’s Young African Leaders Initiative. Established in 2014, the Fellowship has brought nearly 7,200 young leaders from every country in Sub-Saharan Africa to the United States for academic and leadership training. The Fellows, between the ages of 25 and 35, are innovators and leaders in their communities and countries.
