House Study Committee on Affordability & Accessibility of Georgia’s Legitimation Process Announces 2025 Meeting Dates & Locations

ATLANTA – State Representatives Carter Barrett (R-Cumming) and Teddy Reese (D-Columbus), chair and vice chair of the House Study Committee on Affordability & Accessibility of Georgia’s Legitimation Process, today announce the dates and locations for the 2025 meetings.

“Our committee is looking forward to studying this issue and hearing from Georgians across the state involved in the legitimation process,” said Chairman Barrett. “It is our hope that we can put together good recommendations for us in the General Assembly to consider during the legislative session. I want to thank our study committee members and advocates in advance for the time they will spend tackling this topic to ultimately benefit Georgia families.”

“I am very excited to begin examining this topic that affects so many Georgia families,” said Vice Chairman Reese. “We want to hear stories from Georgians on this topic, and I encourage people to participate in our meetings directly or to reach out to the study committee with public comment if you cannot attend a meeting. Our committee members look forward to producing recommendations that help Georgians better realize their rights and responsibilities as parents.”

The meeting dates and locations for the 2025 meetings of the House Study Committee on Affordability & Accessibility of Georgia’s Legitimation Process are as follows:

  • Wednesday, July 16 – Atlanta (Georgia State Capitol)
  • Wednesday, August 13 – Columbus
  • Wednesday, September 17 – Augusta

Specific meeting times and location information will be announced prior to each meeting.

Meetings of the House Study Committee on Affordability & Accessibility of Georgia’s Legitimation Process will be livestreamed and are open to the public.

Representative Carter Barrett represents the citizens of District 24, which includes a portion of Forsyth County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Higher Education Committee and as Secretary of the Banks & Banking and Code Revision committees. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education. 

Representative Tremaine Teddy Reese represents the citizens of District 140, which includes a portion of Muscogee County. He first was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Economic Development & Tourism and Public & Community Health committees, as well as the Special Committee on Resource Management.
