ATLANTA – State Representative Eric Bell (D-Jonesboro) today issues the following statement regarding Texas State Representative Nicole Collier:
“We are living through dark days in America. The detainment of Rep. Nicole Collier inside the Texas House Chambers is not simply an attack on one elected leader. It is an attack on the very principles upon which this nation was founded. The actions in Texas raise serious concerns about respect for the U.S. Constitution, risk undermining the trust of the people and cast doubt on the integrity of the democratic process.
History reminds us that darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Rep. Collier’s courage in the face of injustice is that light. I stand with her, and I call on my colleagues here in Georgia to take heed. We must have the fortitude to stand tall for our citizens, our state and our country. The people deserve leaders with integrity. Democracy is worth defending. Freedom is worth the fight.”
Representative Eric Bell represents the citizens of District 75, which includes a portion of Clayton County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2023 and currently serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Human Relations & Aging and Small Business Development committees.
