Legislation Supported by Rep. Mike Glanton Signed into Law

ATLANTA – House Bill 451, legislation updating Georgia’s Uniform Commercial Code that was introduced by Representative Mike Jacobs (R-Atlanta) and supported by Representative Mike Glanton (D-Jonesboro), was signed into law by Governor Sonny Perdue on Thursday, May 27, 2010.

“I am happy to finally have this legislation come full circle with the Governor’s signature,” said Representative Glanton.  “This is another example of ‘make-sense’ legislation. I appreciate my constituent Mr. William Stankiewicz of Shippers Warehouse of Georgia in Jonesboro for bringing this issue to me two years ago. With my background in logistics and warehousing, I understand the importance of such legislation in improving processes in the industry. This will also help protect the environment by reducing and, in some cases eliminating, the requirement for paper transactions during tracking and accountability procedures for accepting and transporting products.”

HB 451 updates and clarifies Georgia’s Uniform Commercial Code by eliminating outdated references to tariffs and regulations that no longer exist. It also adopts the revised Article 7 of the Uniform Commercial Code relating to warehouse receipts, bills of lading, and other documents of title.
