ATLANTA – State Representative Floyd Griffin (D-Milledgeville) today issued the following statement condemning the use of the National Guard and active-duty troops in recognition of Veterans Day, observed on Tuesday, November 11, 2025:
“When our military is used for political purposes, it dishonors every veteran who has ever worn the uniform. I’ve seen what happens when leadership fails our soldiers — we can’t let history repeat itself. Veterans Day is no time for political theater. It’s a time to honor service, sacrifice and the sacred bond between mission and leadership.
“My family represents four generations of military service. Our family’s story is America’s story — one of courage, duty and sacrifice. From serving in World War II to Vietnam to today’s global missions, my family has answered the call. That’s why I take it personally when our military is used as a political prop. Every guard member and active-duty unit has a mission, and that mission is to defend this nation, not to score points in Washington.
“Furthermore, our soldiers are not trained to serve as photo opportunities. They are trained to fight, to protect and to serve with honor. Leaders at every level, from the White House to state capitols, must treat their service with the respect it deserves.
“Our veterans do not ask for fanfare. They ask for integrity, accountability and leadership that solves problems rather than creates them. Leaders should also solve problems, not create them – especially when it comes to those who’ve risked their lives for our freedom.”
Rep. Griffin urges every American to support veterans not just with words, but through deeds — expanding access to healthcare, mental-health services, housing and career opportunities for all who have served.
Representative Floyd Griffin represents the citizens of District 149, which includes portions of Baldwin, Bibb and Jones counties. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2024 and currently serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Special Rules and State Planning & Community Affairs committees.
