Rep. Arlene Beckles Celebrates Grand Opening of Walton Crossing in Norcross

ATLANTA – State Representative Arlene Beckles (D-Norcross) recently joined the Norcross Housing Authority, Walton Communities, residents and community leaders to celebrate the grand opening of Walton Crossing, a new affordable housing community located at 675 Mitchell Road in Norcross.

“Housing is not a luxury,” said Rep. Beckles. “It is the foundation of everything else. When a family has a safe, quality, affordable place to call home, children do better in school, parents do better at work and communities grow stronger together. That is what affordable housing done right looks like—and it is happening right here on Mitchell Road.”

The community offers one, two and three-bedroom apartment homes designed for affordable family living, with amenities including a fitness center, in-home high-speed internet, pet-friendly accommodations, on-site management and resident programs. Walton Crossing serves working families across a range of income levels—teachers, healthcare workers and small business employees in Gwinnett County.

At the grand opening event, Rep. Beckles thanked the Norcross Housing Authority and Walton Communities for the vision, investment and partnership behind the project.

Rep. Beckles notes that the development will expand further in the months ahead. Once leasing at Walton Crossing is complete, Walton Communities will begin pre-leasing The Legacy at Walton Crossing, a 55+ community designed to serve seniors in Norcross—with the goal of creating a campus that welcomes both families and older adults.

“As your State Representative, I will continue to push for policies that make more of these investments possible—because one community is not enough,” added Rep. Beckles. “We need more partners willing to do what Walton Communities has done here: invest in people, not just properties. To every family who will call Walton Crossing home: welcome. You belong here. This community was built for you.”

“Communities like this don’t happen by accident,” said Tom Wilkes, principal-president of Walton Communities. “They happen because people choose to believe that good housing builds strong neighborhoods and that strong neighborhoods build strong cities. Thank you to everyone who believed in Walton Crossing and helped us get to this day.”

Walton Communities develops, owns and manages multifamily apartment communities for each unique stage of life. Founded in 1989, the company’s mission is to go beyond building places where people live by creating neighborhoods where people thrive. Headquartered in Atlanta, Walton Communities is a privately held organization that offers apartment homes throughout Georgia.
