State Representatives Welcome Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to Atlanta for 50th Southern Regional Conference and Centennial Celebration

ATLANTA – State Representatives Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain), Rhonda Burnough (D-Riverdale), Sheila Jones (D-Atlanta), Edna Jackson (D-Savannah), Mekyah McQueen (D-Smyrna) and Terry Cummings (D-Mableton) will welcome members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to Atlanta from August 7 – 9, 2026, for the 50th Southern Regional Conference and the Centennial Celebration of the Southern Region. These representatives introduced House Resolution 61EX during the 2026 special legislative session to recognize the conference.

“The Southern Region has spent the last 100 years transforming lives through servant leadership, scholarship and community engagement,” said these representatives in a joint statement. “It is both an honor and a privilege for the Georgia House of Representatives to recognize this extraordinary milestone and welcome Delta women from across the South back to Atlanta, where the Southern Region’s remarkable journey began.”

House Resolution 61EX seeks to recognize the 50th Southern Regional Conference and the Centennial Celebration of the Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., welcome attendees to Atlanta and celebrate the organization’s century of leadership, scholarship, sisterhood and service throughout Georgia and the Southern United States.

These representatives note that throughout its history, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has remained steadfast in its mission to promote academic excellence, provide support to communities in need, advocate for social justice and develop leaders committed to improving the quality of life for all citizens. The Centennial Celebration seeks to provide an opportunity to honor the organization’s past, while inspiring continued service for generations to come.

Representative Viola Davis represents the citizens of District 87, which includes portions of DeKalb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and currently serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Insurance, Interstate Cooperation, Natural Resources & Environment and Urban Affairs committees.

Representative Rhonda Burnough represents the citizens of District 77, which includes portions of Clayton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2016 and currently serves on the Economic Development & Tourism, Governmental Affairs, Higher Education and Small Business Development committees.

Representative Sheila Jones represents the citizens of District 60, which includes portions of Fulton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2004 and currently serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education and the Health, Juvenile Justice and Transportation committees.

Representative Edna Jackson represents the citizens of District 165, which includes portions of Chatham County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2021 and currently serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education and the Economic Development & Tourism, Higher Education, Human Relations & Aging and Urban Affairs committees.

Representative Mekyah McQueen represents the citizens of District 61, which includes portions of Cobb and Fulton counties. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2024 and currently serves on the Code Revision, Creative Arts & Entertainment and Special Rules committees. 

Representative Terry Cummings represents the citizens of District 39, which includes portions of Cobb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves on the Banks and Banking, Public Safety and Homeland Security and State Properties committees.
