ATLANTA – State Representative Henry “Wayne” Howard (D-Augusta) and family members will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters (GAB) for Augusta’s The Parade of Quartets TV show. The GAB holds its annual Honors Night Program on Friday, June 7 at 6pm.
“I am honored to receive this award from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters,” said Rep. Howard. “It is important for me to continue to serve and inform the people of Augusta while also keeping my father, the late Rep. Henry L. Howard’s legacy alive.”
Georgia Association of Broadcasters (GBA) will be honoring the Howard family with the Lifetime Achievement Award for the longest running TV show in the state of Georgia. “The Parade of Quartets” program has been on television on Sunday morning since the 1950’s. Rep. Henry “Wayne” Howard currently serves as a co-host for the show.
“Over 90 percent of Georgians receive their news, weather and emergency information from our state’s over-the-air radio and television broadcasters every day. This is the night we all come together to recognize our excellence and community service,” according to GAB President Bob Houghton.
Other GAB award winners this year include Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, long-time Columbus Broadcast Executive Lee Brantley and former Braves Announcer Pete van Wieren. The late Skip Caray will also be inducted into the GAB Hall of Fame. Community Service Awards will be awarded to broadcasters by the Georgia National Guard and Operation Lifesaver. GAB will also award scholarships to Georgia students pursuing broadcasting as a career.
Speakers will include Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, National Association of Broadcasters President Gordon Smith, Georgia Homeland Security Director Charley English, Josh Caray and Pete van Wieren.

The Parade of Quartets began in the 1950’s in the transition of WJBF radio to television. The late Rep. Henry L. Howard also served in the Georgia House of Representatives before his son, Representative Henry “Wayne” Howard, succeeded him. Rep. Henry L. Howard also passed the show “The Parade of Quartets” on to his sons Karlton Howard as the main host and Representative Henry “Wayne” Howard as the co-host.

Representative Henry “Wayne” Howard represents the citizens of District 124, which includes portions of Richmond County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2007, and currently serves on the Education, Health & Human Services, Juvenile Justice, and Motor Vehicles committees.
