ATLANTA—State Representative Eddie Lumsden (R–Armuchee) commented today on Governor Nathan Deal signing into law House Bill 766, legislation which allows students over the age of 16 to earn course credit for participation in work based learning opportunities. Sponsored by Rep. Lumsden, HB 766 passed the General Assembly with broad, bipartisan support during this year’s legislative session, receiving a vote of 163 to 1 in the House and a vote of 479 to 0 in the Senate.
“I want to thank my colleagues for their support and Governor Deal for signing this important piece of legislation into law,” said Rep. Lumsden. “Work based learning opportunities will introduce students to a real-world career environment, where they can earn the skills and knowledge needed to join the workforce. HB 766 also enables businesses, schools, colleges, and technical colleges to create partnerships, so that they can all take part in the education and future of Georgia students.”
Governor Deal signed HB 766 into law on Monday, April 21, 2014 at a bill signing ceremony in Dalton, Georgia. University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby, Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner Ronald Jackson and Georgia Northwestern Technical College President Pete McDonald were also present at the ceremony.
