ATLANTA – House Majority Leader Jon Burns (R-Newington) recently attended the award presentation for John McCormick, the 2016 Georgia Farmer of the Year. The award was presented to Mr. McCormick during a ceremony held on Tuesday, March 15 by Governor Nathan Deal as part of Georgia Agriculture Day.
“I would first like to congratulate John McCormick for his hard work and dedication to his profession that resulted in this outstanding honor,” said Leader Burns. “Agriculture is Georgia’s top industry, and we should always encourage more awareness of the benefits that farmers bring to our great state. I am proud that the work of our agriculture leaders is not going unnoticed, and I have no doubt that John will represent Georgia well in September.”
The Georgia Farmer of the Year Award is a division of the Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year Award. As the Georgia winner, Mr. McCormick will now compete for the title of Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year in September at the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie, Georgia along with nine other southeastern state winners.
The Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year Award began 26 years ago as a way to provide recognition for American farmers and to increase public awareness of the many ways agriculture touches lives every day.
