ATLANTA – State Representative Henry “Wayne” Howard (D-Augusta), along with members of the Augusta Legislative Delegation, today honored the life of Sergeant Greg Meagher, who died last weekend while attempting to save another’s life. Rep. Howard and delegation members paid tribute to Sgt. Meagher at the State Capitol during a Morning Order where they held a moment of silence in his memory on legislative day 15 of the 2017 legislative session of the Georgia General Assembly.
“Our state lost a true hero and public servant this past Sunday,” said Rep. Howard. “Sgt. Meagher was a dedicated officer, cherished father and friend to all. He gave his life trying to save another, and his ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with the Meagher family during this difficult time.”
Sgt. Meagher passed away after inhaling liquid nitrogen fumes while attempting to rescue an unconscious woman in a medical facility.
Sgt. Meagher served with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office for 33 years.
