Rep. Petrea Encourages Participation in the University of North Georgia Military Scholarship

ATLANTA – State Representative Jesse Petrea (R-Savannah) encourages students to participate in the University of North Georgia Military Scholarship (UNGMS) program. Rep. Petrea will offer letters of recommendation to qualified Georgia high school seniors seeking the UNGMS.

“The University of North Georgia Military Scholarship is a tremendous opportunity for aspiring Cadets to earn a quality education in a cost effective manner,” said Rep. Petrea. “As one of only six Senior Military Colleges in the country, UNG’s Corps of Cadets provides unique learning and leadership opportunities for Georgia’s students, and I encourage students to explore this opportunity. I am proud to write UNGMS letters of recommendation for qualified students, and I strongly encourage all interested high school seniors to reach out to my office for information.”

The UNGMS awards 42 scholarships annually, each totaling $70,000 over four years. The program enables Georgia high school seniors to attend the University of North Georgia, pursue a bachelor’s degree and commission as officers in the Georgia Army National Guard after graduation. The scholarship covers the cost of tuition, mandatory fees, room and board, meals, uniforms and books. The scholarship application deadline for the 2018-2019 award year is February 1, 2018.

To qualify, applicants must be a legal resident of Georgia, receive a nomination letter from a State Representative or State Senator, meet the academic requirements and gain acceptance as a regular freshman Cadet at UNG, meet enlistment standards for serving in the Army National Guard and agree to serve as an enlisted member in the Georgia Army National Guard while participating as a Cadet at UNG. If awarded a scholarship, Cadets must commission upon graduation and serve four years as a Georgia Army National Guard officer.

Interested and potential applicants may contact Rep. Petrea’s office at (404) 657-1803.
