House Passes Rep. Glanton’s Local Homestead Exemption Legislation

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives unanimously passed House Bill 863, sponsored by State Representative Mike Glanton (D-Jonesboro), on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018. HB 863 would provide Jonesboro citizens an exemption on the assessed value of their homestead from all City of Jonesboro ad valorem taxes for municipal purposes.

Glanton. “I have worked tirelessly on this legislation, and this bill is a major win for the citizens of Jonesboro.  I’m thankful to my House colleagues for passing HB 863, and I look forward to this bill receiving favorable consideration by my Senate counterparts.”

House Bill 863 would grant Jonesboro, Georgia, residents a homestead exemption from ad valorem taxes for municipal purposes of $50,000 in 2019, which would then decrease by $10,000 every year until 2023. The exemption would be $10,000 in 2023 and all subsequent years.
