Rep. Jones Does Not Oppose Beach Renourishment along South Georgia Coast

ATLANTA – In response to an article published by The Brunswick News on June 7, 2018, State Representative Jeff Jones (R-Brunswick) today issued the following statement:

“This article contained some misinformation regarding my stance on South Georgia’s beach renourishment that needs to be clarified. I strongly support beach renourishment along the South Georgia coastline, and I also support the rights of property owners to develop their property however they choose. This year, the Georgia General Assembly allocated $10 million in the state budget for beach renourishment projects in Georgia, and I proudly voted in favor of the budget. However, I do not support the groin project along Georgia’s coast, which could have serious and long-lasting effects and disrupt the natural sand sharing system.

“Tourism is a major industry in Georgia’s coastal region, and Georgia’s shoreline greatly contributes to the overall economic health of our state. I want to ensure that this valuable industry in South Georgia continues to thrive for the good of our local communities, as well as our state as a whole.”

Representative Jeff Jones represents the citizens of District 167, which includes portions of Glynn, Long and McIntosh counties. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2014 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Motor Vehicles Committee. He also serves on the Insurance, Interstate Cooperation and Science and Technology committees.
