ATLANTA – Today the House Transportation Subcommittee on Approval of the Director of Planning recommended Todd Long for approval to the full House Transportation Committee. The recommendation came in a unanimous vote following a meeting of the approval subcommittee, during which members questioned Governor Sonny Perdue’s recent appointment, Mr. Todd Long, for the position of Director of Planning at the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).
“I was very pleased with today’s meeting. Mr. Long impressed me with his understanding of our transportation needs and seems prepared to be Georgia’s first Director of Planning at GDOT,” said Rep. Ed Rynders (R-Albany), Chairman of the House Transportation Subcommittee on Approval of the Director of Planning. “The historical significance of the House’s role in Mr. Long’s approval should not be overlooked.”
The House Transportation Committee is required by Senate Bill 200, which Governor Perdue signed into law May 11, 2009 to approve any personnel named to the Director of Planning position at GDOT.
“Today ten members got to talk to Mr. Long and decide that they think he is prepared to be our state’s first Director of Planning at the Georgia Department of Transportation,” said Rep. Jay Roberts (R-Ocilla), Chairman of the House Transportation Committee. “I look forward to having Mr. Long meet with the whole committee as we move into the final steps of this approval process.”
The full House Transportation Committee is tentatively scheduled to begin approval hearings for the Director of Planning position on August 19, 2009. More information regarding a specific meeting time and place will follow.
