ATLANTA – On January 15, 2009, the Committee on Assignments, chaired by Speaker Glenn Richardson, announced the committee assignments for the 2009 – 2010 legislative sessions. Representative Tom Graves was appointed Chairman of the Ad-valorem Tax Subcommittee of Ways & Means, Vice-Chair of the Motor Vehicles Committee, and member of the Transportation and Health & Human Services Committees.
“It’s an honor to have been chosen for these posts. I look forward to working in this capacity as we navigate many difficult issues,” said Rep. Graves.
The Committee on Assignments is chaired by the Speaker and includes several other members of House leadership. This committee is in charge of deciding House Floor seating, office, and committee assignments. The committee was first created in 2005 in an attempt to make a more open selection process.
