ATLANTA – On January 15, 2009, the Committee on Assignments announced the committee assignments for the 2009 – 2010 legislative sessions. Representative Calvin Hill was appointed Chairman of the Special Projects Appropriations Sub-Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Banks & Banking Committee. He was also appointed to the Budget & Fiscal Affairs Oversight, State Institutions & Property, and Special Rules Committees.
“As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee I will be in a position to directly affect our state’s budget,” said Rep. Hill. “I enjoyed serving as Chairman of the Special Rules Committee, but this promotion to Vice-Chairman of a senior committee will allow me to better serve my district and state.”
The Committee on Assignments is chaired by Speaker Glenn Richardson and includes several other members of House leadership. This committee is in charge of deciding House Floor seating, office, and committee assignments. The committee was first created in 2005 in an attempt to make a more open selection process.
“Rep. Calvin Hill’s legislative experience and sharp business sense make him a natural choice to serve as a leader on the Appropriations Committee,” said Speaker Glenn Richardson. “Calvin will be an instrumental part of the process as the General Assembly makes tough decisions on how to fund vital services and meet the state’s critical needs.”
