ATLANTA – Today the Committee on Assignments, chaired by Speaker Glenn Richardson, announced the committee assignments for the 2009 – 2010 legislative sessions. Representative Katie Dempsey was appointed Secretary of Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee and member of the Economic Development and Tourism; Energy, Utilities, and Telecommunications; Health and Human Services; and Higher Education Committees.
This will be Rep. Dempsey’s second term as a member of the Economic Development and Tourism; Health and Human Services; and Higher Education Committees.
“I am grateful for appointment to five House Committees that will directly benefit Rome and Floyd County for the 2009-2010 legislative sessions,” said Rep. Dempsey. “I am very pleased to continue to serve on committees where my focus remains on job creation, improving healthcare and increasing the opportunities for higher education. I look forward to addressing the challenges that face Georgia’s energy, utility and telecommunications industries and serving as secretary of the very important committee charged with oversight of our state budget.”
The Committee on Assignments is chaired by the Speaker and includes several other members of House leadership. This committee is in charge of deciding House Floor seating, office, and committee assignments. The committee was first created in 2005 in an attempt to make a more open selection process.
“Congratulations to Representative Dempsey on her assignments and responsibilities as we start the 2009 Session,” said Speaker Glenn Richardson. “The assignments announced today represent the right balance of skills, leadership and experience to continue leading the House.”
