ATLANTA – State Representative Erica Thomas (D-Austell) will participate in the Brock Foundation, Inc. “Gift of Flight” event for minority children on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at 10 a.m. at the Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport in Dallas.
“I am extremely excited to participate in this incredible opportunity to educate and inspire Black and minority children,” said Rep. Thomas. “If we want to expand and diversify employment opportunities for Black and minority communities, we need to partner with organizations, like the Brock Foundation, Inc., to help instill the belief that Black and minority people are deserving of such opportunities starting at a young age.”
The Brock Foundation, Inc. will host this day of outreach and discovery flights for children to foster interest in aerospace careers among minority youth. Children in attendance will receive a career breakdown from male and female pilots in uniform, an aviation museum tour and a discovery flight. Social distancing will be enforced, and personal protective equipment will be available.
“African Americans represent two percent of the pilot workforce,” said Omar Brock, founder of the Brock Foundation, Inc. “That’s simply not enough. Black and minority children need to be exposed to pilots that look like them. This program will give them a life changing experience. In order for minority children to consider this career field, they need to see others and I in uniforms doing what we love. They must identify for dreams to materialize.”
