ACCG Honors Rep. Rob Leverett With 2022 ACCG Legislative Service Award

ATLANTA – State Representative Rob Leverett (R-Elberton) was recently recognized by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) with a 2022 ACCG Legislative Service Award. Rep. Leverett was presented with the award by Kathleen Bowen, ACCG’s associate legislative director, during a recent Elbert County Board of Commissioners meeting.

“I am truly humbled to receive this prestigious award from such a venerated organization, and I want to thank ACCG for this great honor,” said Rep. Leverett. “ACCG’s staff are always there during session to provide me with the information and counsel I need to represent my constituents and maintain home rule for our local governments. I greatly appreciate their support, and I especially appreciate my constituents for allowing me the honor of representing them in the Georgia House.”

The ACCG Legislative Service Awards program honors state House and Senate members for their work during each legislative session. During the 2022 legislative session, Rep. Leverett sponsored House Bill 934, which was a legislative priority for the ACCG this last session. HB 934 seeks to maximize the collection time for the Single County Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST), allowing individual counties to levy a sales tax solely dedicated for transportation purposes. To date, 42 Georgia counties have a TSPLOST in place. ACCG also selected Rep. Leverett for his service on the House Governmental Affairs Committee, where he works to protect home rule and influences legislation impacting county governments.

“The annual Legislative Service Awards program continues to underscore the appreciation for the dedicated members of the Georgia General Assembly,” said ACCG Executive Director Dave Wills. “This program also exemplifies the importance of state and local officials working together to best serve those who call our state home.”

The Association County Commissioners of Georgia is Georgia’s county association and works on behalf of county officials and their communities by providing public policy and legislative advocacy, leadership development, civic and community engagement initiatives, insurance and retirement programs that specialize in local government needs and other cost-saving programs. Formed in 1914 when county officials came together to help fund the state’s first highway department, ACCG today serves as a catalyst for advancing Georgia’s counties.
