ATLANTA – State Representative Todd Jones (R-South Forsyth) was recently recognized by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) with a 2022 ACCG Legislative Service Award. Rep. Jones was presented with his award by Gabriel Carter, ACCG’s legislative associate, during the recent Forsyth County Board of Commissioners meeting.
“I want to thank ACCG for selecting me for this year’s awards program and for serving as an excellent resource for legislators at the Capitol,” said Rep. Jones. “I deeply appreciated ACCG’s input as we crafted the Mental Health Parity Act and so many other bills that were a priority to me this session. Georgia counties play a crucial role in implementing state policy, and Georgians certainly benefit from having our local governments at the table during these conversations.”
The ACCG Legislative Service Awardsprogram honors state House and Senate members for their work during the legislative session. During the 2022 legislative session, Rep. Jones served as a co-sponsor of House Bill 1013, the Mental Health Parity Act, which was a 2022 ACCG legislative priority. The bill enacts Mental Health Reform by addressing insurance parity, workforce challenges and criminal justice reform. Rep. Jones also authored House Bill 1009, legislation which creates regulations for robot delivery devices and allows local governments to help regulate such devices operating in their areas. Lastly, ACCG commends Rep. Jones’ staunch defense on home rule issues that the association believes were essential in stopping conversations on several bills preempting local zoning and land use authority.
“The annual Legislative Service Awards program continues to underscore the appreciation for the dedicated members of the Georgia General Assembly,” said ACCG Executive Director Dave Wills. “This program also exemplifies the importance of state and local officials working together to best serve those who call our state home.”
The Association County Commissioners of Georgia is Georgia’s county association and works on behalf of county officials and their communities by providing public policy and legislative advocacy, leadership development, civic and community engagement initiatives, insurance and retirement programs that specialize in local government needs and other cost-saving programs. Formed in 1914 when county officials came together to help fund the state’s first highway department, ACCG today serves as a catalyst for advancing Georgia’s counties.
