State Legislators Hold 10th Anniversary of Women Veterans Legislative Breakfast at Freight Depot in Atlanta

ATLANTA – State Representative Sandra Scott (D-Rex) and Senator Tonya Anderson (D-Lithonia), who are veterans, recently held the 10th anniversary of the Women Veterans Legislative Breakfast at the Georgia Freight Depot in Atlanta. The breakfast was held in recognition of the Military Women Veterans Day at the Capitol and celebrated the achievements of women veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Rep. Carl Gilliard Applauds Passage of the Autism Missing Person Alert System Act

ATLANTA – State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Savannah) applauds the recent unanimous House passage of House Bill 465, the Autism Missing Person Alert System Act, legislation he sponsored which would allow for autism to be added to the list of eligible conditions to activate the Mattie’s Call statewide alert system to assist in the search for a missing individual with autism.

Georgia House Champions Measures to Strengthen School Safety

ATLANTA – Following the tragic loss of four Georgians during a school shooting at Apalachee High School last September, House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) outlined a list of priorities in a letter to members of the House Majority Caucus that the Georgia House would champion during the 2025 legislative session to secure the safety of our schools and students.

Gwinnett Likely to Hold a Second Homestead Referendum in 2026

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives recently approved House Bill 539 and House Bill 540, which would authorize a homeowner tax relief referendum in 2026, following a round of homeowner tax relief approved by Gwinnett County voters in 2024. State Representative Matt Reeves (R-Duluth) and a bipartisan group of state representatives from Gwinnett County sponsored the legislation, which is supported by Gwinnett County school officials. The bills have been sent to the Georgia State Senate for consideration.
