ATLANTA – DeKalb County House Delegation Chair Karla Drenner (D-Avondale Estates) and Vice Chair Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain), along with members of the DeKalb County House Legislative Delegation, will hold a post-session town hall meeting with state representatives on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the New Black Wall Street Market in Stonecrest.

Governor Signs Representative Deborah Silcox’s Legislation to Support Law Enforcement and Dementia Patients

ATLANTA – State Representative Deborah Silcox (R-Sandy Springs) joined Governor Kemp today at the State Capitol as he signed House Bill 500 and House Bill 571 into law. HB 500 will create the offense of arson of a law enforcement vehicle; HB 571 will require the Georgia Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias State Plan Advisory Council to update its state plan every four years on the impact of dementia in Georgia.

Governor Kemp Signs Rep. Jesse Petrea’s Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act of 2024

ATLANTA – Today, State Representative Jesse Petrea (R-Savannah) joined Governor Brian Kemp as he signed House Bill 1105, the Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act of 2024, into law at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Ga. Sponsored by Rep. Petrea, this legislation requires Georgia law enforcement officials to work in conjunction with federal immigration authorities and to send, receive and maintain information relating to the immigration status of any individual as reasonably needed for public safety purposes.

Rep. Houston Gaines Applauds the Signature of New Immigration, Public Safety Laws

ATLANTA – Today, State Representative Houston Gaines (R-Athens) applauded Governor Brian Kemp as he signed into law a bill that cracks down on criminal illegal immigrants and another that requires bail for violent offenders — House Bill 1105 and Senate Bill 63. Rep. Gaines played a key role in passing both public safety measures during Georgia’s 2024 legislative session.

Governor Kemp Signs House Bill 1105, the Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act of 2024, into Law

ATLANTA – Today, Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington), State Representative Jesse Petrea (R-Savannah), and other legislators joined Governor Kemp in Forsyth, Ga., where House Bill 1105, sponsored by Rep. Petrea, was signed into law. This legislation mandates that Georgia law enforcement officials collaborate with federal immigration authorities to exchange and retain information regarding individuals’ immigration status, as required for public safety reasons.
