ATLANTA – State Representative Matt Barton (R-Calhoun) touts the Property Tax Relief Grant program funding included in House Bill 18, the Amended Fiscal Year 2023 (AFY 2023) budget. Proposed by Governor Brian Kemp, this program will provide every eligible Georgia homeowner a chance to receive an $18,000 exemption for their assessed home value on their 2023 property tax bill.

ATLANTA – Today, Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington) announced he has established two bipartisan working groups in the House of Representatives – the House Working Group on Early Childhood Education and the House Working Group on Public Safety. These working groups will work over the interim between the 2023 and 2024 legislative sessions to advance specific policy priorities.
ATLANTA (March 28, 2023) | Yesterday, the Georgia General Assembly passed Senate Bill 211 to establish the “Georgia Council on Literacy” and House Bill 538, the “Georgia Early Literacy Act.” The measures, sponsored by Senator Billy Hickman (R – Statesboro) and Representative Bethany Ballard (R – Warner Robins) respectively, would jointly provide for the establishment and implementation of evidence-based literacy instruction methods and curriculum for students to be overseen by the Georgia Council on Literacy.

ATLANTA – State Representative Dewey McClain (D-Lawrenceville), chair of the Gwinnett House Legislative Delegation, touts the delegation’s bipartisan local legislation to create a property tax exemption for Gwinnett County residents. Last week, the Georgia House of Representatives passed two local tax exemption bills, House Bill 711 and House Bill 748, which will now undergo consideration in the Senate.
