Speaker Ralston Announces House Working Group on Rising Costs of Construction Materials

ATLANTA – Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) today announced the creation of the House Working Group on Rising Costs of Construction Materials.

“We know that the rising costs of construction materials pose a threat to our continued economic recovery,” said Speaker Ralston. “I am appointing this working group to look into why these costs are increasing and recommend any solutions which may alleviate this burden on those building for the future.” 

The members of the working group are:

  • Rep. Dale Washburn (R-Macon)
  • Rep. Noel Williams (R-Cordele)

Majority Leader Jon Burns (R-Newington) and Minority Leader James Beverly (D-Macon) are appointed as ex-officio members of the working group.

The House Working Group on Rising Costs of Construction Materials is constituted pursuant to the authority granted to the Speaker by House Rules. The working group is authorized for the entirety of the 2021-2022 legislative term.

ATLANTA – State Representative Yasmin Neal (D-Jonesboro) today announced that Governor Brian Kemp recently signed her bill, House Bill 236, into law. Sponsored by Rep. Neal, HB 236 seeks to provide further protection to victims who have been granted a temporary protective order.

Rep. Burchett Supports Ending Additional Federal Unemployment Insurance Benefits, Supports Economic Recovery Plan to Boost Workforce Recovery

ATLANTA – State Representative James Burchett (R-Waycross), chairman of the House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee, commends Governor Brian Kemp for his recent decision to end the state’s participation in additional federal funding for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits. Rep. Burchett also supports the state’s plan to offer job search assistance to unemployed Georgians who may be able to work.

Chatham County Gang Legislative Gang Prevention and Intervention Commission to Hold Press Conference, Meeting

ATLANTA – The Chatham County Gang Legislative Gang Prevention and Intervention Commission, chaired by State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Garden City), will hold a press conference and meeting on Monday, May 17, 2021, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Waters College of Health Professions building at Georgia Southern University (Armstrong Campus) in Savannah. Rep. Gilliard will hold a press conference at 9 a.m., and the commission meeting will begin immediately following the press conference.

Rep. Sandra Scott to Host “Put an End to Period Poverty” Feminine Hygiene Drive-Thru Events Tomorrow

ATLANTA – State Representative Sandra Scott (D-Rex) will host two “Put an End to Period Poverty” drive-thru events to provide feminine hygiene products TOMORROW, Saturday, May 15, 2021, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Morrow High School; and Saturday, May 15, 2021, from 2 – 4 p.m. at Stockbridge High School.
