ATLANTA – Members of the Georgia House Democratic Caucus (GHDC) Subcommittee on COVID-19 recently submitted a letter to Governor Brian Kemp to urge an action plan against a new variant of COVID-19, which is reported to be a more contagious strain of the virus. The members of the subcommittee, which includes State Representatives Rhonda Burnough (D-Riverdale), Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain), Shelly Hutchinson (D-Snellville), Donna McLeod (D-Lawrenceville), Sandra Scott (D-Rex) and Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta), request that Gov. Kemp reevaluate his current response plan regarding the spread of COVID-19 within the state of Georgia.
David Ralston Re-Elected as Georgia’s Speaker of the House
ATLANTA – Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) was re-elected by his colleagues in the Georgia House of Representatives to continue his service as Speaker of the House for the 2021-2022 legislative session. Ralston has served as Speaker since 2010 and is Georgia’s 73rd Speaker of the House.

ATLANTA – Members of the Cherokee County Legislative Delegation recently met to elect its new officers to lead the legislative delegation ahead of the 2021 legislative session, which begins Monday, January 11. Rep. Gilliard Pre-Files Legislation to Honor First 33 Black Georgia State Legislators
ATLANTA – State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Garden City) recently pre-filed legislation which would honor the first 33 Black state legislators of the Georgia General Assembly. House Bill 48 would authorize the state to create a monument recognizing these legislators at the State Capitol.
