Cove’s Law Legislation Sponsored by Rep. Hawkins Signed into Law

ATLANTA – State Representative Lee Hawkins (R-Gainesville) today announced that House Bill 241, Cove’s Law, was signed into law by Governor Nathan Deal on Monday, May 8, 2017. HB 241, sponsored by Rep. Hawkins, will add Krabbe disease to the list of metabolic and genetic conditions for which newborn screenings may be conducted by the Department of Public Health. Rep. LaRiccia Appointed to House Rural Development Council

ATLANTA – State Representative Dominic LaRiccia (R-Douglas) was recently appointed by Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) to serve on the House Rural Development Council. Governor Signs Medical Cannabis Legislation Sponsored by Rep. Peake

ATLANTA – State Representative Allen Peake (R-Macon) today announced that Senate Bill 16 was signed into law by Governor Nathan Deal on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. SB 16, which was sponsored in the House by Rep. Peake, will expand Georgia’s medical cannabis oil program by adding six illnesses to the list of qualifying medical conditions to allow those patients to legally possess a maximum of 20 fluid ounces of cannabis oil with a maximum of 5 percent THC in Georgia. Governor Signs Rep. Boddie’s Slider Crime Legislation

ATLANTA – State Representative William Boddie (D-East Point) today announced that Senate Bill 104 was signed into law by Governor Nathan Deal on Monday, May 8, 2017. This legislation, which contains language from Rep. Boddie’s House Bill 67, will add motor vehicle hijacking in the second degree to Georgia law relating to crimes and offenses.
