ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives recently passed House Bill 506, co-sponsored by State Representative Meagan Hanson (R-Brookhaven). HB 506, which passed overwhelmingly by a vote of 164-2, would allow the MARTA board to consider bids for contracts for concessions through a responsible and competitive process.
“I was proud to present House Bill 506 to my colleagues in the House on Crossover Day and am thankful for their support in passing this important measure to increase MARTA’s accessibility,” said Rep. Hanson. “By having the ability to offer more concessions, MARTA would be more convenient for current users and would also make the transit system more appealing to potential new riders.”
Currently, the MARTA board is restricted to accepting the highest bid for contracts for concessions; however, HB 506 would allow for the board to consider bids and make a decision through a responsible process. This would allow MARTA to incorporate more concessions in MARTA stations.
Rep. Hanson will now present House Bill 506 to the Senate for consideration.
