ATLANTA – The Camden County legislative delegation, which includes State Representative Jason Spencer (R-Woodbine), Rep, John Corbett (R-Lake Park), and Senator William Ligon (R-St. Simons Island), announced today that the fiscal year 2016 state budget will include $1.1 million for planning and design costs for the Coastal Pines Technical College campus in Camden County. The funds will be used for planning of the architectural design of the Kingsland campus.
“The funding in this year’s budget is the first step in the process of building a full-fledged technical division in Camden County,” said Rep. Spencer. “The funding for the technical college has been long overdue, and this day has finally arrived.”
“This is truly a great day for Camden County, and I’m honored to have been able to work with the members of our delegation to keep the money in the budget for the planning and design of the technical college,” said Rep. Corbett. “I promise to continue to work hard to make sure that the funding for the construction of the college will be appropriated within the next couple of years.”
The 2016 fiscal year budget, which is detailed in House Bill 76, received final passage by the Georgia House of Representatives on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 by a vote of 173-0. HB 76 includes funding for the $1.1 million for campus in Camden County. Currently, Coastal Pines Technical College is holding classes at the College of Coastal Georgia in Kingsland, and these new funds will be used to plan and design a new building to meet the growing work force needs of Camden County and the surrounding area. Creating a new technical division in Camden County is congruent with the state’s policy to put more emphasis on technical training and develop the region’s workforce.
“We are very pleased that funding for the planning design for the Coastal Pines Technical College was included in the budget,” said Sen. Ligon.
Coastal Pines Technical College is located in Jesup, with satellite campuses in Alma, Baxley, Hazlehurst, Kingsland, and Brunswick. Coastal Pines Technical College provides postsecondary education programs in fields ranging from business technology and industrial technology to health sciences and personal services. The school’s mission is to meet the future economic challenges of southeast Georgia. Coastal Pines Technical College is part of the Technical College System of Georgia, which is administered by the Technical College System of Georgia.
