ATLANTA—Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson (R-Hiram) has tapped Majority Leader Jerry Keen to serve as Chairman of the House State Fiscal Year Study Committee.
“I am pleased that Majority Leader Keen has accepted this responsibility,” Richardson said. “I am confident that he will do a great job for our state.”
The committee will be making recommendations to the 2007 General Assembly to determine if there is a benefit to bringing Georgia’s fiscal year calendar in line with the federal government’s fiscal year calendar. Georgia receives nearly $ 12 billion in federal funds, and greater coordination of state and federal funding cycles could be beneficial to the state’s budget procedures.
The committee was created by the passage of House Resolution 1667, authored by Rep. Jerry Keen. The committee will end its meeting on December 31, 2006.
