GDOT Awards Construction Project Contract for SR 140 Widening

ATLANTA — State Representative Christian Coomer (R-Cartersville) today announced that the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) recently awarded a construction project contract to allow for the widening of State Route (SR) 140 throughout Bartow and Floyd counties.

“As a result of responsible leadership in the legislature and from the Governor’s staff, as well as the leadership at GDOT, we are able to move quickly on projects that have long been waiting for adequate funding, like the widening of Highway 140 in Floyd and Bartow counties,” said Rep. Coomer. “This is great news for travelers on the corridor.  It brings improved safety, as well as increased economic development opportunities for North Bartow and Floyd.”

The project is the third phase of a major widening and reconstruction on State Route 140 in Bartow and Floyd counties beginning at SR 53 and extending west of Oothkalooga Creek. The roadway will be widened from a two lane roadway to a four lane roadway and will include a 44 foot grassed median. Other details include the improvement and realignment of side roads to provide safer intersections. The projected completion date is June 30, 2021.

The total project cost is $56,489,887 with a scheduled completion date of June 30, 2021.

Information on schedules, lane closures and detours will be made available in advance of construction activities. Georgia DOT recently announced plans for an active summer construction season and many of the newly-awarded projects are on that extensive list. Know before you go.
