ATLANTA – State Representative Kevin Tanner (R-Dawsonville) was recently honored with the Distinguished Legislator Award by the Georgia 9th District Republican Party at the annual 9th District Convention dinner on Friday, April 12, at the Dillard House in Dillard. Rep. Tanner was recognized for his dedication and public service to the North Georgia area and his recent legislative successes during the 2019 legislative session.
“I want to thank the Georgia 9th District Republican Party for this recognition, and I extend my deepest gratitude to the other leaders and members of the party that work so hard to make the North Georgia area a great place to serve,” said Rep. Tanner. “The Republican Party has done a tremendous job bringing economic growth and prosperity to our region, and each year, my time serving alongside the party becomes more meaningful. Georgia will always be home for me and my family, and I hope to continue to make this state a great place for everyone to live.”
Rep. Tanner was recommended to receive this award by the Lumpkin County and Dawson County Republican parties. Lumpkin County Republican Party Chairman Tim Youngblood and Bill Minor, who previously served as the Chairman of the Dawson County Republican Party. In addition to their recommendation, Chairman Youngblood and Mr. Minor submitted a letter to the organization, which highlighted several aspects of Rep. Tanner’s career in public service.
“[Representative] Kevin Tanner has served the Republican Party in multiple ways since college and is currently serving his fourth term as our State Representative,” said Chairman Youngblood and Mr. Minor. “Each year of his service, Kevin has successfully passed meaningful legislation in the General Assembly… and it is [our] privilege to nominate him for this well-deserved Distinguished Legislator Award. As a true steward to our community and a blessing to so many, Chairman Tanner rightfully deserves this award.”
At the 9th District Convention dinner, Rep. Tanner was commended for serving the Republican Party and House District 9 in various ways. In addition to his career in the Dawson Sheriff’s Office, he was recognized for his involvement in community and civic activities in North Georgia for many years. The Georgia 9th District Republican Party shared its appreciation for Rep. Tanner’s commitment to passing legislation that benefits the organization’s legislative agenda as well as the citizens of Georgia.
The Georgia 9th District Republican Party recognizes legislators and members of the organization annually at the 9th District Convention dinner. The Georgia 9th District Republican Party represents members of the Georgia Republican Party and the Republican National Committee in the North Georgia area. The organization supports counties within Georgia’s 9th Congressional District and seeks to provide support, training and advice for county-wide Republican parties, and it also coordinates multi-county events and seminars.

Representative Kevin Tanner represents the citizens of House District 9, which includes portions of Dawson, Forsyth and Lumpkin counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2012 and currently serves as Chairman of the Transportation Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education and the Education, Intragovernmental Coordination, Natural Resources & Environment and Special Rules committees.
