ATLANTA – State Representatives William Boddie (D-East Point) and Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) will host the “Understanding the Department of Labor” virtual event TODAY, Thursday, March 11, 2021, at 6:30 p.m. To participate in this virtual town hall meeting, please contact kimberly.romaine@house.ga.gov.
These Democratic state legislators will discuss various issues regarding the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL), including the handling of unemployment claims during the COVID-19 pandemic, workforce development, career retention and achieving long-term economic growth in Georgia. The virtual event will include opening remarks by House Minority Leader James Beverly (D-Macon), as well as a guest speaker, Michael Thurmond, who is a former GDOL commissioner and current DeKalb County CEO. Mr. Thurmond will give his perspective on the GDOL and how he operated the department during the Great Recession.
