ATLANTA – The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC), chaired by State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Savannah), will host its annual legislative conference, with several events taking place from Friday, August 2 – Sunday, August 4, 2024 in Atlanta. This year’s conference theme is “Redeeming the Soul of America, Testing, 1, 2, 3.” The event schedule is as follows:
- GLBC Reception Event – Friday, August 2 at 8:30 p.m. at Bar Ti Amo.
- GLBC Unity Breakfast, with key-note speaker, Rev. Dr. Jamal-Harrison Bryant – Saturday, August, 3 at 9 a.m. at the Atlanta Metropolitan College.
- GLBC Empowerment Luncheon, with key-note speaker, U.S. Rep. Jasmin Crockett (D-TX) – Saturday, August 3 at 12 p.m. at the Atlanta Metropolitan College.
- GLBC Worship Service – Sunday, August 4 at 9:45 a.m. at the Enon Baptist Church.
There will be several panels during the conference, such as “The Young Leaders Panel,” which will focus on a discussion between young African-American Democrats and young African-American Republicans. The American Civil Liberties Union will host two additional panels, which will focus on the “Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair Act” and “Freedom, Breaking the Cycle on the Ban,” which will focus on the recent bans of African-American history books in Georgia. The events will also feature information vendors.
Furthermore, GLBC will award recording artist, CeeLo Green, with the GLBC Lifetime Music Legacy Award and actress and comedian, Terri J. Vaughn, with the GLBC Entertainment Award.
