Gov. Deal Appoints Rep. Efstration to Judicial Nominating Commission, Criminal Justice Reform Council

ATLANTA – Governor Nathan Deal recently appointed State Representative Chuck Efstration (R-Dacula) to the Georgia Council on Criminal Justice Reform and the Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC). Rep. Efstration was appointed to the Georgia Council on Criminal Justice Reform on June 17 and the JNC on July 19 by an executive order signed by Gov. Deal. 

“It is a remarkable honor to be appointed to the Council on Criminal Justice Reform and the Judicial Nominating Commission, and I thank Governor Deal for entrusting me with these appointments,” said Rep. Efstration.  “I am eager to join my colleagues on both the JNC and the Georgia Council on Criminal Justice Reform and look forward to working diligently to accomplish the issues that will come before each of these boards.”

The current Georgia Council on Criminal Justice Reform was created by House Bill 349 during the 2013 legislative session and requires the Governor to appoint 15 members to the Council.  The Council’s charge is to conduct periodic comprehensive reviews of criminal laws, criminal procedure, sentencing laws, adult correctional issues, juvenile justice issues, enhancement of probation and parole supervision, better management of the prison population and of the population in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and other issues relates to criminal proceedings and accountability courts.

The Judicial Nominating Commission reviews applicants and recommends candidates to fill judicial vacancies within the state, superior and appellate courts in Georgia. The Commission members must have knowledge of the judicial system and the needs and operations of Georgia’s courts.

 Representative Chuck Efstration represents the citizens of District 104, which includes portions of Gwinnett County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2013, and currently serves as Vice Chairman on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Economic Development. He also serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Juvenile Justice, Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment, and Insurance committees.
