House Budget and Research Office Director Honored by National Association of Legislative Fiscal Offices

ATLANTA — Speaker of the House David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) congratulated Martha Wigton, Director of the House Budget and Research Office, on receiving the 2016 Legislative Staff Achievement Award from the National Association of Legislative Fiscal Offices. The award was presented last week at the National Conference of State Legislatures in Chicago. 

“Martha Wigton is one of the most dedicated and experienced leaders on our legislative staff, and her award demonstrates the confidence her colleagues around the country have in her,” said Speaker David Ralston. “Leading by example is a trademark of her tenure in the General Assembly, and I congratulate her on this well-deserved honor.”

Rep. Terry England (R-Auburn), Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, also praised Wigton’s work. “Managing the appropriation of the billions of dollars we invest through our state budget each year is an enormous undertaking, and Martha’s expertise and institutional knowledge are invaluable in that process,” said Chairman England. “I appreciate her tireless, selfless service to our state.”

Martha Wigton has worked for the General Assembly for more than 25 years. She was appointed Director of the House Budget & Research Office in 2011 after having served as Deputy Director for six years. Wigton has a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University and completed post graduate studies at the University of North Florida.

The National Association of Legislative Fiscal Offices (NALFO) is one of the 10 staff sections associated with the National Conference of State Legislatures. NALFO welcomes all legislative staff involved in fiscal research and analysis. The purpose of the association is to improve the quality and effectiveness of legislative fiscal staff and the services they provide to state legislatures.
