ATLANTA— The Georgia House of Representatives passed House Bill 289 with a vote of 175 – 1 on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Introduced by state Representative Trey Kelley (R-Cedartown), HB 289 clarifies when remittance transfers will be applicable within the Uniform Commercial Code operating under the federal Electronic Fund Transfer Act, also known as the Dodd-Frank Act.
“This is an important piece of legislation because it works for both individuals and businesses,” said Rep. Kelley. “I am glad to help improve our state’s financial climate by providing necessary certainty to our financial institutions while being in tune with consumer needs which were damaged under the federal Dodd-Frank Act.”
House Bill 289 looks to preserve consumer protections and provide legal certainty for electronic funds transfers. These electronic funds transfers were compromised under the federal Dodd-Frank Act.
HB 289 will now go to the Senate for consideration. For more information about HB 289, please click here.
